Columbus B. Blackshire, 81, of Davisville died Thursday February 17, 2005 at Camden Clark Memorial Hospital. He was born in Sissonville, WV a son of the late Sylvester Columbus and Sylvia Myrtle Nichols Blackshire.
He was a sheet metal worker and retired from Kaiser Aluminum. He was a member of South Parkersburg Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday School teacher. He was a very clever and creative craftsman as well as an avid gardener and deer hunter. Some of his favorite outdoor activities include: the Blennerhassett Gun Club; training bird dogs, for which he had received numerous awards; and the Oldie Wheelers, a four wheeling club.
He is survived by his wife of 22 years Beulah Naylor Cheatham Blackshire; children Judy Davis Miller of Parkersburg, Columbus (Chris) Blackshire, Jr. and his wife Gwendolyn of Raleigh, NC, and Susan Tucker of Morgantown; four grandchildren Richard Davis, Joni Wedekamm, Timothy Davis, and Matthew Miller; eight great-grandchildren; and one sister Hermie Eary of Charleston.
He was preceded in death by his 1st wife Alice Abbott Blackshire, three sisters, and a great great grandchild.
Services will be Saturday 1:0 PM at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg with Reverends Don Whiteman, Joseph Busch, and Jerry Caplinger officiating. Burial will be at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Friday 3-5 and 7-9 PM.
